South River Street Bridge Permanent Repair (Replacement)
South River Street Bridge Temporary Closure 2-11-2020
Project Update as of June 5, 2019:
The Town has received funding for the replacement of South River Street Bridge. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $2.4 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent Federal funds and 20 percent Town funds. The Town is currently working with a design consultant and the State on the design. The State has approved the preliminary design. There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements. These impacts consist of various temporary and permanent rights and easements necessary for construction and maintenance of the bridge, as well as a total acquisition necessary for the realignment of South River Street starting at the Main Street intersection.
The Town of Enfield conducted a Public Hearing concerning South River Street Bridge Replacement, State Project No. 48-198 – jointly with Connecticut River Access Path, State Project No. 48-190 - on April 17, 2019 in the Enfield Town Hall, Council Chambers.
DPW and a representative of State DOT presented the preliminary design for South River Street Bridge Replacement, State Project No. 48-198 to Town Council at the May 6, 2019 Town Council Meeting. The State required Town Council endorsement of the preliminary design for the bridge because it entails property acquisition. After the presentation, Town Council endorsed both the South River Street Bridge Replacement design and the Connecticut River Access Project design.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2021 based on the availability of funding.
