AARP Tax-Aide Program

Mondays ONLY

February 22 - April 12

9:00 am - 3:00 pm, by appointment only

We will begin taking appointments starting, Tuesday, February 2nd at 9:00 am.

Due to COVID-19, this year's Tax-Aide program will be Enfield residents only and there will be a limited number of appointments available. Appointments can only be made on the phone with a senior center staff member.

From February to April, IRS-trained AARP volunteers will complete Federal and State income tax returns at no charge for seniors 60 and over. This free service is intended for the completion of average tax returns. If your return cannot be completed in 1 hour or less, and is overly complex, it is advisable to use the services of a paid tax professional. 

To Enable our volunteers to complete your tax returns more easily, please bring the following:

- Last year's Federal and State tax returns

- All original documents for taxes for 2020

- 1099's

- Town property tax bills for your house and/or auto

- Social Security statements

Call the Senior Center office for an appointment at 860-763-7425 starting February 2nd at 9:00 am. Due to expected volume of calls - please be patient and keep trying until you reach a staff member.

*This service will be "contactless". On the date and time of your appointment, please drive up to the back of the Senior Center. A tax volunteer will greet you and obtain all required paperwork. You will be given instructions for follow up and completion of the process via phone.


COVID-19 Vaccination Appointments

Connecticut has now entered into Phase 1b of their vaccination plan. This means that residents who are 75 and older can begin to make appointments to receive a vaccine. Click on the links below to learn more information about about how to make an appointment.

On the same thought as WordBrain, the Lumosity app also offers hundreds of games and puzzles to keep the mind sharp.


Librivox Audio Books

For some seniors with vision problems reading an actual book can become difficult. But that doesn't mean they need to miss out on some great stories. Librivox has thousands of books available to listen to. Audiobooks are a great alternative for those seniors who want to keep up with their “reading” but may not be able to do so the old-fashioned way.

Here's another game app that allows seniors to keep their minds active. This is similar to Scrabble and also allows players to challenge one another no matter where they live. It's a fun way to stay connected with loved ones while sharpening those mental skills.


NPR One

Here's another app that can provide information right on your smartphone. NPR (National Public Radio). National and international news as well as some entertainment shows are accessible on this app. You can even set up the app to let you know when your favorite programs are on so you don't miss them. You can also search for different topics that interest you.

Sometimes remembering to take medications can be tricky, especially if you take different medications on different days. The Pillboxie app allows you to make a customized pillbox and set reminders to help you take your pills at their scheduled times.
